HIPAA, FERPA, and School Medicaid

HIPAA and FERPA remain among the most misunderstood subjects in School Medicaid, especially for professionals who have recently entered the field. We'll explain what each law does, when each applies, why school health records are often treated differently from records in traditional healthcare settings, and why the answer is not simply “schools follow FERPA and hospitals follow HIPAA.” We'll use practical School Medicaid examples to explore information sharing, billing, consent, providers, vendors, and state agency responsibilities.
